Love and Mendeli
Lovers celebrate their day on February 14th honoring the death of a saint of murky life, Saint Valentine, who helped middle age lovers to marry in spite of a ban that aimed to keep soldiers single.
However, other interesting things happened on this date along history.
For instance the first Knesset meeting was on February 14th 1949. Israel’s first president, Chaim Weizmann, delivered a solemn address in which he offered “friendship to all peace-loving people” before swearing in the 120 legislators.
On February 14th 1962 Jacqueline Kennedy showed off the White House. Wearing a triple strand of pearls and a red wool dress befitting Valentine’s Day, the 32-year-old First Lady led a huge nationwide television audience tuned into CBS and NBC on a virtual tour of the White House’s state rooms, which she had recently refurbished.
And in 1876, February 14th, Alexander Graham Bell applied for telephone patent. And got it!
